Garmin 205 - GPS tracking for the next level
My experience with the Garmin 205 has been nothing short of miraculous. This amazing bundle of hi-tech technology has quite simply blown my mind and it has allowed me to take my running to a whole new dimension.
With the Garmin Forerunner 205 I can track my performance both short term and long term and all at the press of a button. This product is a solid all round performer and as reliable as time itself.
The 205’s ability to lock onto satellites and begin tracking is lightening quick. Before even halfway through my warm up exercise routine, the 205 was ready to rock and I was ready to roll. This makes all the difference when your aiming for the zone as there is nothing worse than waiting for some under performing tracking device to finally go to green.
Furthermore, the 205 has the ability to work indoors if there is enough access to skylights or windows.
Outside and you hit turbo charged. The Garmin can remain locked onto a signal with consistent strength and the accuracy of the Garmin is amazing as it can detect movement of just a couple of feet. On final checks of a known course reaching the perfect mile, the Garmin 205 was accurate to just 12 feet.
What more do you need from a running device?
So how do we compare the Garmin 205 with earlier models?
Being a fan of Garmin I have purchased several different devices and each device has been thoroughly tested. I am after all a very avid runner and have competed in several marathons. I am sure you can sympathise with me in the amount of training hours it takes to prepare for each Marathon?
I would like to start with the 205’s design. The Garmin 205 is quite simply a watch. I appreciate that it is larger than your typical watch yet it is still a watch. With a strong rubber /Velcro wrist band the 205 can be worn with great comfort on any part of your wrist or arm. Imagine the 100’s of runners you can picture each day wearing ipods affixed to their upper arms and you can now imagine how the Garmin may appear.
Rectangular in shape the 205 has a series of buttons that are easy to navigate and respond beautifully and you’ll have the functions cracked in no time.
So what’s the use of data if you can’t unlock it. Well there is great news at hand. Computer software is available in down load format so that you can review each and every one of your workouts. Charts will depict all the graphical data with amazing precision focusing on time, distance, elevation and position. The absolute building blocks to the most basic of training campaigns. The only downside to this model was the inability to find a signal when amongst thick woods or forests. However it was quick to update when finding a clearing and can operate very well in moderate tree coverage.
